It started as an admin decision.
Then things kept arriving that did not fit the filing.
The holding is broad by design.
Some become companies. Some become projects. Some exist for one evening.
This one needed doing.
The filing came first
A holding structure is a filing decision. You make it because two things you are doing should not be able to sink each other, you make it on an afternoon, and you do not think about it again.
Then things kept arriving that did not fit the filing. A company, then a project, then an evening. Then a piece of research that was nobody’s to carry. The structure held perfectly well; it was the explanation that kept failing. Every version of the sentence that connected them was either a lie or a category, and usually both.
The register is what happened after the explanations were given up on. It records what is open, why it was started, and what state it is in. It does not claim a strategy. Anything that reads like one on this site is a description of what already happened, written afterwards, which is the only honest form a strategy has ever taken.

I do not need every project to fit the same presentation.
For a while I tried. It produced a very tidy deck and two years of doing less.
Who is speaking
Some of this is a company and some of it is not, and the site does not work hard to tell you which is which, because in practice the distinction moves. An evening becomes a collaboration. A collaboration turns into a thing with employees. A thing with employees ends up funding an evening.
What is consistent is narrower than a mission and more useful: the work is picked because someone has to carry it and nobody else has put their hand up, and it is only started if there is a version where being wrong is survivable.
That is the whole of it. Everything else on this site is detail.
